HEALTH – it’s a human right. Despite this, millions of people across the African continent are suffering because they cannot access quality healthcare. While a few governments have made progress on meeting their promises, sadly the majority are lagging behind. Fair Play for Africa’s goal is to unite the continent in the spirit of ubuntu and make both these promises and healthcare for all a reality!
Who Is Involved

Fair Play for Africa is an alliance of more than 200 organisations from across Africa, all united in their determination to improve the continent’s health and well-being.

With support from the private sector, health ministries, ambassadors, and individuals and clubs from the world of football, Fair Play for Africa will be lobbying governments to increase funding for health care services and ensure increased progress is made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

What We Are Doing

Fair Play for Africa is a new alliance of civil society organisations from across Africa that aims to use the platform of the 2010 FIFA World Cup to:

  • Unite African people to demand the right to healthcare and HIV services
  • Put pressure on African governments to meet their commitments on health provision and HIV/AIDS services
  • Link up with international initiatives to put the health MDGs back on track
Where We Campaign

Fair Play for Africa has formed national alliances in 10 African countries, and will link up with existing campaigns from across Africa and beyond her borders to make sure that global governments and decision-makers listen to African citizens’ demands on health – and act on them.

When We Will See Success

Africa Cup of Nations in January, Pan African Parliament in May, World Cup in June, AU Summit in July, Millennium Development Goals Summit in September, World AIDS Day on 1 December… 2010 is going to be a busy year! As part of National campaigns, there will be one key event that will connect the different country campaigns and link at the pan African level.

Using as many of the year’s key moments as possible, Fair Play for Africa aims to create excitement among Africa’s citizens and action among its governments.
